Valuable points this weekend with draws for both teams.
Almeria goalless against Deportivo.
Elche 1-1 at Celta Vigo courtesy of a last-minute penalty....VERY dubious it was too!
Both teams now 2 points above the drop zone.

And to this week's BIG GAME! Elche vs Almeria - Sat 7th March KO 20:00 (Spanish)
And here we go..................................
5 mins.....Elche 1-0 Almeria (Victor Rodriguez)
25 mins.....and the goalkeepers' protection association strikes again! Perfectly good goal for Elche disallowed for a foul on the keeper.
Half time ... 1-0.
Final 1-0.
So 3 points for Elche moves them way up to 14th. But zero for Almeria leaves them in the relegation places.

15th March.....a valuable point for Almeria but Elche draw a blank at Sevilla. Elche clear of the drop, but Almeria are still on the brink. And games are running out.

2th April...These two are still fighting the drop!
Elche got 3 points last week and Almeria get 3 this!
With mid-week games this week, Almeria have an 'easy' trip to the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday to take on Real Madrid whilst Elche have it easier with a home game against 17th placed Deportivo.

Debut for wonderkid?
Norwegian teenage sensation Martin Odegaard could make his first appearance for Real Madrid when the European champions host Almeria on Wednesday.
The 16-year-old, signed for £2.3m from Stromgodset in January, has been included in Carlo Ancelotti's squad for the first time.
So far his time with the first team has been limited to training sessions, but he has played for the reserve team in the third tier of Spanish football.
"Tomorrow in the squad there will be three youth team players and they could get an opportunity to play," Ancelotti said.
Madrid will again be without the injured Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Luka Modric, while Dani Carvajal and Sergio Ramos sit out due to suspension.

So, Almeria's sun looks to be sinking slowly in the west after their loss at the Bernabeu!
Although Elche did them a massive favour by gaining their biggest win of the season .... 4-0 against Deportivo.
Elche now up to 13th and only need 3 points from 4 games to be certain of another season in the 1st Division.

A-Maze-Ing! Elche get their three points - away at Malaga, who have been challenging for a European spot. So Elche will be entertaining the rich-and-famous again next season.
Almeria play Celta Monday night.

Almeria vs Celta
16 mins and Celta go ahead (Nolito). Not looking good for Almeria.
38 mins - Santi Mina makes it 0-2. Going...going...
46 mins - game on...Thievy makes it 1-2.
54 mins and a red for Celta's Cabral ('last man' foul)
67 mins and Zongo brings it all square. 2-2
74 mins and el arbitro decides he needs a few more cards tonight. Second yellow for Almeria's Dos Santos and they join Celta with 10 men.
Stupid - it's far from a dirty game.
Any point in Almeria's situation is good but they'll think they should have got three. Final 2-2.

10th May ... Elche and Almeria both lose.
And there are still rumblings that both teams' financial troubles could result in points deductions or some other sanctions.
It seems any sanction on Elche (who now have a restructured finance and board) would only apply for the next season. They failed to pay some wages for several months but say everything is now up-to-date. Their La Liga position looks secure.
Almeria, on the other hand, are facing a points deduction for this season due to late payment of a transfer fee. There is a worse sting in the tail here, though, if they manage to win the points to stay up, but get relegated due to a sanctioned points deduction. The players would be entitled to 'success' bonuses, but the club would lose La liga monies. What would happen to next year's wages?
Mind you, with their last two games being against Sevilla and Valencia, I can't see then picking up any points anyway, so their demise looks a foregone conclusion.

Yep.....one (game) down and one (team) down!
Almeria lost at Sevilla whilst Granada and Deportivo both won, so Almeria are relegated to the Segunda. We wait to see what further sanction(s) if any they get.

Elche - may not be secure in the Primera after all. They may even be relegated TWO levels to 2B! Watch this space.
Is El Presidente speaking with forked-tongue?
Seems the Hacienda debt WASN'T paid like he said!
Looks like they have 'days' to sort it.
