NEXT AWAY GAME
TERCERA DIVISION GRUPO XIII - game 37
Kickoff 6pm (18:00) Saturday 20/04/2019
To be played at the MUNICIPAL DE DEPORTES DE MULA
MULEÑO C.F. v MAZARRON F.C.
This game was scheduled to be played on Easter Sunday but has been pushed forward 24 hour to he Saturday. Please keep an eye on the Mazarrón forum and the Los Amigos Facebook site for other updates as they become available.
Following last Sunday’s game against relegation threatened CD Algar which finished as a humiliating 0-1 defeat for our boys, Mazarrón FC are back on their travels and this time it’s to Mula. If the weather holds it’s a great day out in a historic town with the ground overlooked by the towns castle.
Last weekend we were at home for the second consecutive weekend facing CD Algar where tactically Mazarrón got it all wrong and were condemned to a 0-1 loss. A poor game with bizarre team selections.
Meanwhile our opponents were away at Ciudad De Murcia for a bottom of the table scrap. That game finished as a 2-0 defeat for Muleño and the loss of a player for a double yellow card. They are now 15th and just 4 points off a possible relegation place as five teams could be relegated this season so they will come out fighting next weekend.
MULEÑO CF
Our opponents plied their trade in the Tercera last season and finished a creditable 11th although this season they sit towards the lower end of the table looking for a safe total for this season.
Expect a changed strip for our boys as Muleño play in red and white stripes so we should be in our alternative white uniforms for this game.
As I said the ground sits in the shadow of the local castle which is well worth a visit if you have time. With plenty of on street parking around the ground and numerous bars and restaurants nearby you will be able to refresh yourself after the 44 minute drive coving the 67KM between Camposol and the stadium.
The stadium has seating on most sides covered on one, there is some plastic seats but it’s mainly concrete steps so a cushion could well come in.
There is a bar inside the ground and modern toilet facilities. The playing surface is artificial but the last time that I was there the bounce was regular and the pitch isn’t effected by strong winds as it is enclosed on all sides.
For independent travellers the sat nav coordinates are 38° 02' 24" N, 01° 29' 06" W To get there get on the A7 at Totana traveling towards Murcia. Leave the motorway at Alcantarilla joining the RM15 which will take you straight to Mula and the ground is slap bang in the Center of town and is well signposted.
Details of the Los Amigos away supporters coach will be posted here and on their Facebook site when they are available.
EARLIER THIS SEASON
Mazarron earned three valuable points in a five goal thriller and the only surprise is that there were not more goals as both teams put on a display of excellent attacking football.
Mazarron should have taken the lead in the third minute when a left wing cross saw a goalmouth scramble and the ball landed at Diego's feet. Unfortunately he shot wide when it seemed easier to score. Habib and Diego were working well together down the left and Habib had a shot blocked after a surging run from the halfway line. Then a good ball from Campoy found Habib racing clear but he slipped as he turned inside and the chance was lost.
Habib couldn't be kept out of the action and he received an unfortunate yellow card when he tried an overhead kick after Basi sliced his shot across the goalmouth. Salva Ballesta had a couple of half chances as Mazarron continued to press forward before the home team deservedly took the lead on 26 minutes when a left wing cross was superbly headed home by Basi.
On 29 minutes a Muleno free kick sailed harmlessly over the bar and at the other end a Salva free kick was headed well over by Adrian Campoy. Then Antonio Pena preserved Mazarron's lead with a brilliant diving save to keep out a Muleno free kick. There were half chances at both ends as an exciting first half came to an end with Mazarron holding a narrow lead.
It took just a minute for Mazarron to increase their lead after the interval when an excellent flowing move between Habib and Diego saw Salva Ballesta running on to Diego's pass to squeeze the ball in to the corner of the net with the help of a deflection from a defender.
Two minutes later Antonio Pena made another superb save to keep out a fierce shot from the edge of the penalty area and almost immediately he was in action again to turn another shot around the post for a corner. Muleno were striving desperately for a goal and it came on 54 minutes when a free kick was headed home by an unmarked Pablo with the usually reliable Mazarron defence nowhere to be seen.
Mazarron were giving needless free kicks away in dangerous positions but both teams continued to press forward in search of further goals. The Mazarron defence was sleeping again when another free kick found two Muleno players unmarked at the far post but fortunately the header was tame and Pena saved.
Muleno were fighting for every ball but it was Mazarron who almost increased their lead when substitute Jose Da robbed the Muleno left back and tried to chip the goalkeeper who was off his line but he just scrambled back to tip the ball over the bar for a corner. However in the 69th minute Jose Da scored one of the most spectacular goals of the season with a fierce free kick from almost on the touchline which screamed into the top corner of the net.
On 72 minutes Muleno had the ball in the net but the effort was ruled offside but they pulled a goal back on 79 minutes, when the ball was headed home again by Pablo after more dreadful marking by Mazarron, from another free kick.
Three minutes later Mazarron were awarded a free kick on the right after a seemingly innocuous challenge which somehow saw Habib and the Muleno's Jesus receive their second yellow cards.
There were half chances at both ends in what was a really exciting game before the over-officious referee blew the final whistle to signal three more points for Mazarron . The win moves them back up to sixth place just one point away from a play-off position.
It is just a pity that the performance of the referee should once again overshadow a great game of football for which both teams deserve great credit.
