NEXT AWAY GAME the last of three on the trot
TERCERA DIVISION GRUPO XIII - game 30
Scheduled for Sunday 10/03/2019
To be played at the PINATAR ARENA FOOTBALL CENTER?? (See below)
F.C. LA UNION ATLETICO v MAZARRON F.C.
So it’s the last of the three consecutive away games against a side which we have done battle with on numerous occasions.
The location of the game is a bit confusing at the moment as the Federation site is saying that it will be played at the Pinatar arena football Center but La Union have been playing all their home game in the town of the same name at the Polideportivo Municipal de La Union. Why the change of location? I don’t know but will monitor the situation and update the forum when it becomes clear where the game will be played.
LAST WEEKEND
Mazarrón FC were at our favourite 🤔 away location in Cieza where a controversial penalty gave the home side a first half lead and despite all of Mazarróns efforts in the second half they fell to a late sucker punch of a goal in the 89th minute by a sub who’d only been on the pitch for two minutes this left the final as Cieza 2 v Mazarron FC 0.
Meanwhile La Union were away at Ciudad de Murcia where they fell further into problems with a 1-0 defeat. This result puts them in real danger of relegation at the end of the which in 13 games time, sure is squeaky bum time for La Union.
LAST TIME THAT WE PLAYED
MAZARRON FC 1 - FC LA UNION ATLETICO 0 (21.10.2018)
In a game of two halves Mazarron withstood sustained second half pressure from La Union and held on to Diego's first half goal to take all three points.
With the whole of the main stand closed following the problems at the Cieza game last week the large crowd were crammed into two sides of the ground which made for a raucous atmosphere.
Chino had the first chance for Mazarron with a shot on the turn which was blocked as the home team had the better of the early exchanges. Then good work by Diego saw Chino having another half chance but again his shot was blocked. On 26 minutes a free kick from Xavi was headed wide by Adrian Campoy with Mazarron encamped in the visitors' half.
A minute later a long ball out of defence saw Dani Barrelis taking on three defenders before hitting a crisp left foot shot which was saved by the La Union keeper. Then a Jose Da corner was met at the far post by Xavi but his firm header was tipped over the bar. On 37 minutes Adrian Campoy's pass found Diego on the left and his cross was met by Chino who hit a superb left foot volley just over the bar.
Mazarron's pressure paid off a minute later when Dani Barrelis cleverly held off two defenders before threading a perfect ball through to Diego who made no mistake from 10 yards out to give Mazzarron a 1-0 lead at the interval.
The second half saw Mazarron take their foot completely off the pedal and they allowed La Union into the game. A break down the left was finally cut out by Antonio Pena in the Mazarron goal and then a left wing corner was headed over his own bar by Adrian Campoy. On 67 minutes a corner was headed just over the bar by the La Union central defender as the home supporters started to get restless.
At the other end a Jose Da free kick was just over and then a drive from substitute Salva Ballesta was deflected for a corner. Mazarron were conceding far too many free kicks as the tackling became more desperate and a succession of yellow cards were shown by the referee. La Union's last chance came in the 86th minute but the final shot was wide of the target. The game finished on a sour note for Mazarron as leading goalscorer and Man of the Match Dani Barrelis was carried off with what appeared to be a bad hamstring injury which left the home team to finish the game with 10 men.
The victory took Mazarron up to third place in the league, a quite remarkable start to life in the higher division.
LA UNION
Both of the possible locations for this game have excellent facilities with modern amenities and ease of access and parking. When it is confirmed which location that the game will be played at I will give a full run down of the stadium, directions for independent travellers, distances and time from Camposol to the ground so keep an eye on the forum for the update.
La Union have flirted with the higher divisions of the Spanish football pyramid in the past. Last season they finished 6th in the Tercera Division But were playing as FC Pinatar, hence the current confusion regarding the location of the game. This time out it appears to be a different case completely as they are struggling somewhat and are hovering just above the relegation zone and with the number of teams relegated this season expected to be greater than the usual three they are definitely looking over their shoulder at the teams below them. Expect La Union to come out fighting for their lives.
Their home strip is blue shirt so expect Mazarrón to be in their normal red uniform.
CURRENT STATS
10th Mazarrón FC P 29 W 12 D 8 L 9 GF 35 GA 33 Points 44
19th FC La Union P 29 W 7 D 6 L 16 GF 27 GA 39
SANCTIONS AND SUSPENSIONS
Details will be released by the Federation on Thursday evening and will be posted on the Mazarrón forum when they are available. Mazarrón had four players booked last weekend but it’s only right back Josema who is pushing his limit for card accumulation.
AWAY SUPPORTERS COACH
Details of the Los Amigos away supporters coach will be posted on the Mazarrón forum and the Los Amigos Facebook site once they have been finalised.
