ITS THE BIG ONE
LIGA PHILIPS PREFERENTE GRUPO UNICO - game 28
6pm (18.00) Sunday 26/03/2017
To be played at the ESTADIO PLAYASOL / POLIDEPORTIVO MPAL.
C.D. BALA AZUL v MAZARRON F.C.
Last weekend Mazarrón FC made it 11 games undefeated but it was a disappointing result against Alquerias, which was a case of two points dropped not one gained, next time out Mazarrón FC make the short trip down to the port to face local rivals Bala Azul and, as is always the case in local derbies, the form book goes out of the window in a usually fiercely fought game.
Bala Azul hit the buffers a bit last weekend only drawing 1-1 against relegation bound Montecasillas proving that the league second placed side can be thwarted.
The last time the two sides met earlier in the season only a late goal by ex Mazarrón favourite, Jose Da, split the two sides so it's time to gain revenge for that defeat. Here is a résumé of what happened during that game.
MAZARRON FC 0 - CD BALA AZUL 1 (6.11.2016)
Bala had the better of the early exchanges and it was 15 minutes before Mazarron threatened the visitors goal when Raul Torrano's free kick was snatched off the onrushing Raul's head by Bala keeper Gregorio. Six minutes later Raul Torrano's long throw found Jimmy who hit a fierce shot just over the bar.
As Mazarron came more into the game Chino's cross from the left was headed down by Raul into the path of Jimmy but his left foot shot was well over the bar. Andreo than made an excellent break down the right but his cross, intended for Raul, was cut out by Gregorio.
At the other end Juan Pedro was troubled by a dipping shot which he managed to claw away and then Diego had a shot which was deflected wide for a Bala corner. On 41 minutes, Boudia conceded a free kick just outside the penalty from which Juan Pedro made an excellent diving save.
Bala started the second half like a house on fire. Diego's free kick was superbly saved by Juan Pedro who then had to make another stunning save to keep out another long range shot. After 58 minutes Salvador's shot from 25 yards beat the diving Juan Pedro but, fortunately for Mazarron, went just outside the far post.
Mazarron were relying on breakaways at this stage and Chino's long throw caused panic in the visitors defence before the ball was headed over the bar for a corner. The on 61 minutes Koko controlled a left wing cross before turning inside and shooting straight at the Bala keeper.
After 71 minutes it was Juan Pedro in action again with another excellent save to keep out former Mazarron player, Diego. The deadlock was finally broken after 81 minutes when Jose Da was allowed to run at the Mazarron defence and hit an excellent shot from just outside the penalty area which gave Juan Pedro no chance.
Mazarron were denied what seemed to be an obvious penalty for handball in the closing minutes but the referee indicated only a corner kick to the dismay of Mazarron players and supporters. Bala Azul just about deserved their victory.
BALA AZUL
What a difference a season makes. This time last year Bala Azul were fighting, what seemed to be, certain relegation from out division and only a late season spurt saved them as they scrapped a place away from the drop zone and now 12 months later they are looking odds on for promotion to the Tercera division and that is mainly down to one player but we will get to him later.
Bala Azul play their home games at the Estadio plyasol in the port of Mazarrón and easily found. As you travel from the town to the port pass Mercadona supermarket on your right and Lidls on your left then take a left at the traffic island next to the Renault garage. After about 100 metres you will see a bathroom shop on your right and the road to the ground is opposite this shop.
The home ground of Bala Azul almost became derelict a couple of seasons ago and they were forced to play their home games on the plastic pitches at the sports complex but somehow someone persuaded the council to refurbish the stadium and it has sprung back into life following extensive works. There is seating on both sides of the pitch, the ground also has a small canteen a reasonable toilet facilities.
Beware of the gate prices. Bala Azul have a history of hiking prices for this game which stays in force throughout the match so don't think that you can nip in after kickoff for free. The last time we met in the port they doubled the gate entry prices, nice!
Bala Azul, meaning 'blue bullet' play in, would you believe, an all blue kit so our boy will be in red for this game.
ONE TO WATCH OUT FOR
In Salvador Manuel Ardil Navarro, who wears the number 21 shirt, Bala Azul have a goal machine similar to ex Mazarrón player Tolo. Salvador has scored 20 goals this season at an average of .9 of a goal per game and that's a third of the total that Bala Azul have scored this season. But he isn't the only threat with plenty of goal coming from through the team but Mazarróns priority must be to stop this guy. He drew a blank last weekend so he can be stopped as we did during the earlier encounter at our home ground.
CURRENT STATS
2nd BALA AZUL P 27 W 17 D 5 L 5 GF 60 GA 35 Points 56
5th MAZARRÓN FC P 26 W 12 D 8 L 6 GF 38 GA 24 Points 44
SUSPENSIONS AND SANCTIONS
From the booking Mazarrón received last weekend I don't think that they will have any players suspended for this game and of course we will welcome back the influential Boudia after his one match ban for the accumulation of yellow cards.
Meanwhile over at Bala Azul they could be missing Tomas Lopez Sanchez who it appears picked up his 5 yellow of the season last weekend. This guy has no goals to his name so I would imagine that he is a defender.
Any other suspensions or sanctions will be posted after they are released by the federation on Thursday.
TRANSPORT TO THE GAME
Los Amigos will not be running a coach to the game but keep an eye on the Mazarrón forum and Los Amigos Facebook site for further information.
