NEXT HOME GAME
LIGA PHILIPS PREFERENTE GRUPO UNICO - game 25
5pm (17.00) Sunday 05/03/2017
To be played at the ESTADIO MUNICIPAL DE MAZARRON
MAZARRÓN F.C. v S.F.C. MINERVA
We return to the home of Mazarrón FC next weekend to face a bit of a bogey team for our lads but on the back of last weekends away draw, which in all honesty should have been a win, Mazarrón should draw heart from the fact that the one point gained has moved our boys back into the playoff places, although it's tight up there, and we have a game in hand.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND?
As I have already said Mazarrón gained a solid away point against a Racing Murcia City even though our main striker, Raul, was suspended but three points went begging which was is a pity as for Mazarrón it could have been so much more if they had taken their chances.
Meanwhile Minerva, who are currently top of the table and running away with the league, were at home to relegation candidates Montecasillas but it wasn't the whitewash that was expected. Montecasillas put up a good fight and just missing out with a 2-1 win for the home side. Are there cracks appearing at Minerva?
WHAT HAPPENED WHEN WE LAST MET?
Mazarrón FC were we and truly put to the sword in Minerva at this early morning confrontation of the two sides and here is a résumé of what occurred.
SFC MINERVA 3 - MAZARRON FC 0 (16.10.2016)
Mazarron's mini revival came to an abrupt end when they were outplayed and outclassed by high flying SFC Minerva.
The home team were quick out of the blocks and Pablo in the Mazarron goal had to be at his best but could do nothing about Minerva taking the lead after just seven minutes through Jose Alberto. Mazarron just could not get into the game and, apart from the odd corner and a shot which was easily saved they did not really trouble the Minerva defence in a disappointing first half performance.
Too many passes went astray and the tempers of the visiting team were not helped by the referee who seemed to penalise Mazarron at every opportunity. It all became too much for coach Cobo and he was sent from the dug out after 30 minutes.
Minerva continued to press forward as the game continued at a fast pace but with little skill being shown by either team. Both teams had a couple of long range efforts but the first half ended with no addition to the score.
If Mazarron supporters were hoping for a change in fortunes after the interval they were to be disappointed as Minerva continued to outrun and outplay the visitors. Pablo had to come out of his goal to block an early attack but Minerva went further ahead after 58 minutes when Joel beat Pablo with a well placed shot to make it 2-0.
Mazarron did manage a couple of shots at goal but nothing really to test the MInerva keeper and the home team made the game safe after 67 minutes when a corner to the far post was headed home by Francisco Ramon.
Things got worse for Mazarron five minutes later when Raso was harshly sent off for handling the ball in the penalty area. Pablo made a good save from Alfonso's penalty kick which no doubt went a long way to securing his Man of the Match award from the travelling supporters.
CURRENT STATS
1st SFC MINERVA P 24 W 16 D 7 L 1 GF 55 GA 20 Points 55
6th Mazarrón FC P 23 W 10 D 7 L 6 GF 34 GA 22 Points 37
Mazarrón are situated in the last of the playoff places but only on head to head results and with just 3 points covering the 4th place team to the 9th spot, very close then but we do have that home game in hand.
WHO TO WATCH OUT FOR
As you can image with a side that has rattled in 55 goals they have a couple of tasty strikers, top of the shop is Mario SOLANO NICOLAS with 13 goals and his strike partner Jose Alberto SANCHEZ MORENO with 11, but goals come from all departments with this side and to back that up they have only conceded 20 so they are also tight at the back.
SANCTIONS AND SUSPENSIONS
Details of any sanctions or suspensions will be posted on the Mazarrón forum and the Los Amigos Facebook site when available.
