LIGA PHILIPS PREFERENTE
GRUPO UNICO - game 21
Kickoff 5pm (17.00) Sunday 05/02/2017
To be played at the ESTADIO MUNICIPAL DE MAZARRON
MAZARRON F.C. v BALSICAS ATLETICO
After a very successful two week road trip Mazarrón FC are back at home to face Balsicas Atletico in what is a very winnable game.
Balsicas gained promotion to the Preferente division and although after finishing 5th in the Primera Autonomica last season and due to a number of reason joined us in this higher league.
They are having an up and down season so far with some good wins and some unexpected defeats but sit comfortably in the league at the moment in 8th place 2 points and 2 places below Mazarrón FC.
Earlier in the season Mazarrón traveled to Balsicas and here is a resumé of what occurred on the day.
BALSICAS ATLETICO 1 - MAZARRON FC 0 (18.9.2016)
Balsicas's 6th minute and winning goal came when their best player Jose Antonio latched onto a long ball down the middle and hit a cracking volley from outside the penalty area giving Juan Pedro no chance.
Balsicas totally dominated the early stages with Juan Andreo forced to clear off the line and Pedro went close with a shot across the face of the Mazarron goal. At the other end Cesar broke clear on the right for the visitors but his shot was saved by the Balsicas keeper.
Mazarron's best chance of the first half came on 28 minutes when a through ball from Chino found Javi on the left. The striker's shot was heading goalwards but Juan Eduardo in the Balsicas goal managed to push the ball onto the far post before it bounced back into his arms.
Despite having more of the play Mazarron at the start of the second half they were restricted to long range shots, the best of which came from Cesar who hit a fierce drive from 25 yards which the Balsicas keeper saved.
Mazarron again went close after 70 minutes when Ruben's looping shot was clutched gratefully by the Balsicas keeper after a free kick was only half cleared.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND
For the second weekend on the trot Mazarrón were playing away and for the second week on the trot came away with all three points with a fine win over Caravaca even though Mazarrón FC were without a manager with Cobo being shown the door during the previous week and Juan (Sam) Andreo take the role on a temporary basis as player/manager. But this didn't stop the boys registering a fine away win.
Meanwhile Balsicas, who were 6th in the league at kickoff, faced relegation threatened Montecasillas and despite taking a 9th minute lead contrived to lose the game 1-3. Balsicas were shown three red cards but two of those were to the coaching staff. So a turn up for the books and we can only hope that it continues so Mazarrón can gain revenge for the early season defeat by our visitors. Balsicas have now only claimed 1 point from a possible 9 in the last three games.
CURRENT STATS
6th Mazarrón FC P 20 W 9 D 5 L 6 GF 27 GA 18 Points 32
8th Balsicas Atlético P 20 W 9 D 3 L 8 GF 25 GA 22 Points 30
WHO TO LOOK OUT FOR
Balsicas have scored 25 goals so far this season with a striking set up of Jose Antonio Diaz Canovas who plays number 17, Daniel Sanchez Sanchez number 9 and Pedro Jose Almagro Canovas number 11 scoring 5 apiece.
But it is to be noted that Jose Canovas has missed the last three games for Balsicas! So these three players account for three fifths of all their goals, so we know who to stop then.
SUSPENSIONS AND SANCTIONS
At this time Balsicas will be without Pablo CERRO PEREZ who was red carded last weekend and we await any other sanctions imposed upon the teams when they are published on Thursday by the federation.
