NEXT AWAY GAME
S.F.C. MINERVA v MAZARRÓN F.C.
Scheduled for Sunday 16th October 2016
(exact details published on the forum when available)
SFC Minerva have played all of their home games on Sunday so far this season.
So we are off on our travels once again and this time to a familiar destination SFC Minerva. Our host are based in the Cartagena area and have, in the past, featured many ex Mazarrón players so it will be interesting to play 'spot the old boy' next weekend.
Talking about old boys, Willi appeared to take the genital banter thrown at him last Sunday and even gave us a wave as he left the pitch with, I'm pleased to say, having not found the back of the net.
Talking about last weekend lets see what happened in week 7 of our current season.
Let's start with an absolute cracking encounter at the Estadio municipal Mazarrón. And you have to give it to Racing Murcia City they really took the game to Mazarrón in that first half and we had to thank Juan Pedro in the Mazarrón goal and the excellent defensive team for keeping us in the game. The keeper made three outstanding saves before being beaten just before half time.
And talking of the defensive squad you have to mention Juan 'Sam' Andreo who marshalled his defenders during those periods of pressure. Raso, his usual partner in crime, was missing but the excellent Boudia stepped up to fill his place. How well this lad has grown since his early days in our juvenile and senior sides when he used to play as a striker, now he's composed, mature with only the number of rash yellow cards marring his season so far, he got another on Sunday. Along side him in the right back position was young Pedro, another ex Mazarrón juvenile now making his mark in the senior side, the lad ran and defended himself into the ground, he gave his all for the team on Sunday.
The key to Sunday's game was to shackle the opponents creative maestro, Willi, who was pulling all the strings in the first half. Following the half time cup of tea and orange the plan was to put two players onto him and to stifle Willi's obvious talent, and it worked as for most of the second half he was invisible and that was down to Andreo, another player from the Mazarrón juvenile production line, and young Pedro.
Shackling Willi allowed Bodia to go up for an excellent corner which he crashed into the net for the equaliser. The final piece of the jigsaw was bring on our 'impact' winger in the shape of Steven, yes another ex Mazarrón juvenile player, who proceeded to beat two players on the right wing and after drawing the keeper coolly lobbed him for the winner. Juan Pedro had to be on his toes for the last 10 minutes to maintain the lead pulling off a staggering point blank save to ensure it was 3 points to the home side.
Meanwhile.
SFC Minerva were away at Montecasillas when the wheel certainly came off their truck. Previously unbeaten and top of the league they had their manager and a player sent off and a total of 9 members of their squad seeing a cards or cards of various colours. Montecasillas ran out 2-0 winners knocking Minerva down to 4th place and now with the prospect of facing their next opponents with a reduced playing squad available. Oh that's us.
SFC MINERVA
SFC Minerva play at the El Secante stadium in Alumbres and those with sat navs the co ordinates are 37° 36' 08" N, 00° 54' 47" W which is a few miles East of Cartagena and just off the N332. Alumbres is a small village and the ground is situated after passing through a low tunnel underneath the local railway line.
The ground is 58 KM away and should take 38 minutes from Camposol. The playing surface is artificial and the stadium boasts the usual small canteen and toilet facilities. There is concrete steps/seating down one side of the ground so take a cushion and you will be facing into the setting sun. There is no cover at the ground so if rain is forecast take a 'brolly'.
SFC Minerva finished 6th in the Preferente Autonomica last season and will be looking for promotion this season. Last season we beat them both home and away with the same scoreline of 2-1
SFC Minerva play in a red and blue striped shirt so expect Mazarrón to be in our all blue away kit.
