...and we're off!!!
All played between the areas. Only one save of note, but an enthralling 45 minutes. 0-0.
Only one winner if it stays like this - Real Madrid!
And so it was. The best 0-0 I've seen for ages!
But Real can now pull 2 points back if the beat Espanyol tomorrow.
.....Elche vs Sevilla up next!

Levante vs Barca
Goal for Piqué.
Great cross from Xavi..."on a pin-point - takes everything into account, including the gravity of the moon."!!!
What a commentary from Ray Hudson!

So, with Barca and Atléti both drawing and Real knocking in 5 against doomed Betis, things are really hotting up.
Barca/Atléti on 51 points, Real now on 50!
Villarreal have slipped into the 'chasing' pack.

Don't forget the big game tomorrow (Sunday 2nd). Not counting Mazarrón at Alquerias!
5 pm (Spanish) ... Atlético de Madrid versus Real Madrid.
With Osasuna surprisingly thrashing Atlético and Real Sociedad doing the same to Barca last week, the standings are now Real on 63 points and the other two on 60.
Barca should beat Almeria later tomorrow night.

And so it came to pass - Atléti and Real share the spoils but Barca take the three points.
Real 64pts, Barca 63, Atléti 61.

David Villa scored twice as Atletico Madrid beat Celta Vigo to go top of La Liga.
Following Barcelona's shock defeat at Real Valladolid and with Real Madrid not in action until Sunday. Atletico knew a victory would take them top courtesy of their head-to-head record with Real.
NOTE:
The Spanish league is decided by head-to-head record if two teams are level on points.
Atletico Madrid beat Real 1-0 at the Bernabeu in September, before drawing 2-2 at home last weekend.
CURRENT STATS:
1º Club Atlético de Madrid P 27 W 20 D 4 L 3 GF 63 GA 21 Points 64 2º Real Madrid CF P 26 W 20 D 4 L 2 GF 73 GA 26 Points 64 3º FC Barcelona P 27 W 20 D 3 L 4 GF 74 GA 22 Points 63

And tonight's Real Madrid vs Levante game might be more interesting than you'd think!
Levante had a terrible time in November/December losing 6 out of 7. But since then, thay are unbeaten in 8!

Here we go.................6 mins Real Madrid 0-1 Barcelona!
Thunderous shot by Iniesta.
Game on.................20 mins Real Madrid 1-1 Barcelona.
Di Maria to Benzema - GOAL - (having missed 2 or 3 sitters previously!)
23 mins Real Madrid 2-1 Barcelona
Di Maria to Benzema - GOAL.
26 mins....Di Maria to Benzema - GO.....oh no, Pique saves on the line!
42 mins Real Madrid 2-2 Barcelona
Messi magic.
54 mins Real Madrid 3-2 Barcelona
Controversial penalty won by Ronaldo, scored by Ronaldo.
He's been trying for that all game!
62 mins Real Madrid 3-3 Barcelona
Semi controversial penalty won by Neymar, scored by Messi.
And Ramos sees red - I didn't think we'd end up with 11 versus 11! I'd like to know what his record is for reds against Barca!
(Commentary has just said it's his third!)
74 mins - stupendous shot by Alves - out off the post!
83 mins and it's a THIRD penalty!
Real Madrid 3-4 Barcelona!!!!!
Won by Iniesta, scored by Messi for his hat trick!
(How many against Real?)
What a sensational match! Well worth giving up 90 minutes of your life for!
Here are some stats.....Possession: Real 32-68 Barca! Cards: 5 yellows and a red for Real, 2 yellows for Barca.
And, to cap it all, neither of these teams top the table! Atleti 70 pts; Real 70 pts; Barca 69 pts.
Atleti are out in front due to their head-to-head over Real. They have a win and a draw over them.
Barca now have two wins over Real.
Barca and Atleti drew their first game and play the return on the last weekend of the season! Will that be the decider?

So, in the cold light of day, what did Marca have to say about the game? Actually, not a lot! But their lead article majors on the point I made above that Real's record against Atleti and Barca is not good - only ONE point from a possible 12 in the meetings this year.
The other articles report on the whinging of the Real players - Ronaldo, Ramos, Arbeloa all complaining about the referee! None conceding that the foul leading to the Ronaldo penalty was outside the area!
There may be further ramifications. Real may appeal against Ramos's red card. And there is a suspicion there was a deliberate stamp by Busquets which may lead to retrospective action.
There is also the view that Atleti have the toughest run-in. And that Real could still take the top spot. But the up-coming Champions League games could also have a bearing with distractions, or injuries playing a part.
